Lance Kalanikai Artis

Born and raised in California, Lance Kalanikai Artis, better known as “Kai” by his friends, learned hula and music at the age of 11. Along with family, he was a member of Moana Chang and the Kalani Islanders, one of the first halau’s in California. He later entertained at Disneyland, Anaheim and eventually at Disneyland, Tokyo. In 1984 he relocated to Hawai’i and has been a part of Chuck Machado Luau, Germaine’s Luau and spent 16 years at the Paradise Cove Luau. Kai has graced the stage with Genoa Keawe, Eddie Kamae, Dennis Pavao, O’Brian Eselu and Billy Gonsalves and the Paradise Serenaders. A high point in his life was sharing the stage with the Brothers Cazimero, playing Peter Moon’s part on a Sunday Manoa segment in their 1986 May Day Show. Kai has recorded with O’Brian Eselu, did studio work with Baba Alimoot on Hula records and did numerous other projects with friends. One of his future goals is to do a solo project. Kai enjoys everything about music and rhythm. He is very proud and excited to be a part of this new musical project we call…..“Kapala!”
